It is odd as well as annoying, as it seems to be behaviour largely confined to this forum.
Perhaps aero-argot and techno-jargon give clubbable comfort to some, a short-cut to being "in the circle".
Just as "
on short finals to" bestows a tad more aero-status to the writer than does
approaching or
landing at; obscure airports' IATA codes and stark flight numbers put him or her above the level of being a mere passenger. Or
pax.
Or it could be laziness, and the belief that anyone leafing through this forum has committed the BA schedule to memory
