Easy cards are sold at machines at the Tri-rail station. There is also a manned ticket bootn, but I don't know what its hours are.
Since it is a commuter system, reliability is pretty good. There is the rare day shutdown for urgent repairs, but most scheduled work is done on weekends.
The other important factorr is that you must take a shuttle bus (free) from the FLL Arrivals level to the station - about 2 miles. Shuttles are generally timed to match the trains.
