Guatemala versus Costa Rica versus Mexico for surf trip in Dec/Jan
This would be for December/January.
I'm only an amateur surfer, but I enjoy it when I can do it. I've been to both Guatemala and Costa Rica. Guatemala in 1989/1990 and Costa Rica about 2003. The last few trips to the Caribbean or Mexico were to places I couldn't surf. I have not surfed in either of these places, but I think I can handle it. It's been a while since I've been surfing but I think I would really enjoy it. I've also considered going (back) to Mexico, some place on the Pacific coast.
I've heard that Guatemala still has some trouble with crime. I also wonder which place is easiest to drive in a rental car, or would you suggest arranging taxis and what not to get around? Each time I was in Guatemala, Costa Rica or Mexico I have relied on taxis or tour guides to get around.
