I don't think that rigidity is good in and by itself and I believe in the empowerement of personnel who is well trained and capable of having reliable judgement. Rules never can account for all situations and I trust human intervention over computers or rule books any day.
That said, the clue is in the above statement. I trust the people making the decision. While I can accept saying that the rule is wrong (although I disagree with them), I'm sorry but I cannot really take the argument that the rule is right but the enforcement was 'obviously' wrong seriously when we do not have access to as much data (critically lounge occupancy which all of us regulars know is often really stretched in that lounge) as the person taking the decision had. It simply sounds myopic to me because exceptions are made on the basis of the whole context.
Agreed. It is my opinion that BA gives their staff less discretion than they should.

I meant in the past when I was a GCH, and our family of 5 was flying.

So this is basically a winge that GCHs don't get GGL benefits. Hmmm.

Well, actually it's not a complaint for me at the moment, because I am a GGL/CCR and I did gift my wife a gold card so it won't be an issue next time.
The thinking was more like this I guess:
- If a GCH flies solo in CW, they get GF access
- If a GCH and partner fly in CW, they get GF access
- If a GCH and partner and 1 y/o fly in CW, they get GF access
- If a GCH and partner and 2 y/o fly in CW, they get GC access
So basically in the above scenario, when the GCH spends more money (by buying a third ticket), they get inferior lounge access if they are traveling on a route where F is not offered.
So I think my suggestion for a change was, if a GCH and their family (spouse, children) travel in the highest class of travel possible (since F is not available on all routes), they should have access to GF. It doesn't currently impact me at all and I'm not losing sleep over it, but it seems like a way to not reduce the lounge benefit to the GCH when they are paying as much as possible for that journey.
