Data point: This morning at 4:40 it took 7 minutes to get through Precheck at checkpoint 4. By the time I got my bag off the belt the line at the entry was twice as long. Just one ID checker and one lane open. The last time I went through they had 2 lanes open.

Hopefully as they add staff they'll have more lanes open consistently.
