I think OP is trying for the 6 RTs, not the one. And is asking if A-B-C-B-A can be broken up into A-B-A and B-C-B (i.e. home to connection airport and return as an RT and embedded between those a connection to destination RT) to make two RTs out of one.

OP I believe this would definitely make two RTs--because I am certain it will show up as two entries on your Delta activity and can't see why that wouldn't translate.

Will probably break the bank but good luck.
based on personal experience for a vaguely similar promo ~2008 (2. 4, 6 RTs to or from CVG earned something like 10k, 20k, 40k bonus miles; rules explicitly stated "booked as RT, connections do NOT count"), splitting up the itinerary into two nested RT tickets will work
