Yes I do LCY<->GLA most weeks so am no stranger to place being rammed! However if you avoid the peak times (I usually opt for the 14:20 departure to GLA) it's lovely and quiet - only problem is the M8 in the shuttle bus at 5pm on a weekday when I get there!.
In the 2 years or so I've been doing that journey though, LCY has got noticeably busier. I think the western pier expansion will help.
The piers are actually a good refuge when it's busy - the main lounge gets so hot and busy in the peak, the piers tend to be a lot emptier and they have no heating or AC but windows that open so it's a lot cooler too (though sometimes the smell of jet fuel gives me a headache).
