Asking this because I found numerous FT posts on different threads about this topic but most seem to be from at least a year ago and even then seem to have been triggered for travellers who had at least a 24 hour stay in Turkey (not layover).
I have a 13 hour layover next month on the way to the Maldives from US on Turkish Airlines business class. And flying back to the US on Qatar Airways business class (so 2 separate 1 way award bookings made on separate programs, UAL and AA) Thanks
I don't think you have a lot to fear. I have traveled a lot with TK in and out of IST for the last 5 years, and a lot to the US, without any problems. Only time I got SSSS status was when I flew from Denmark to the US 3 times in one week and it took almost 6 months before I got off the list again.
