In this case it wasn't a "good decision" from the practical point of view (considering you were about to get on the flight), but I am guessing that the lounge agents get this kind of requests all the time from people who then proceed to stay on in the lounge.

Then again if we don't want rules to be enforced we do not have a leg to stand on if we complain about the lounge crowding etc.
