Before anyone chimes in with "You should know the rules", well I do.
If your child is over 2 years old, then this is normal. If under 2 years old then all 3 of you should have been allowed in. You sometimes gets a bit of discretion in this situation, but North can be busy. The obvious thing would be for you to sort out your child while your wife gets a break from childcare.

Clearly it's easier for all concerned that the rules are clear, you may want discretion, but that conflicts with the consistency principle.
