Usually happens on longer/international flights, where Y has to board through the premium cabin. We'll see if I get any grief for sitting in 1A in a sold out J cabin ATL-LHR this Saturday.
Not sure what kind of grief you are expecting. You seem to have an enormously over-inflated opinion of yourself. I highly doubt that people are paying as much attention to you as you perceive.
