My company won't pay for first so I booked a W class ticket to get the receipt. I then called the EXP desk and asked to change it to the A class ticket. Got my second receipt showing a Fare Code of A with the charge for the difference. Flew all four segments at the beginning of the month but no bonus miles.
Called AA and was told that since I "upgraded" the original "W" ticket I was not eligible for the bonus. The total fare was the same either way, if I bought it outright or did the "upgrade". The transaction was done through the AA website and the EXP Desk and flown on AA marketed and operated flights.
Just a warning to anyone else who try this not to expect the bonus miles. I guess I should have cancelled the original ticket completely and then rebooked the "A" fare. Still burns me though...
Boo!

Sorry that happened. "Upgraded", my er, well, you know. I'd appeal, myself.
