I don't like traveling on two tickets. If it were me I'd fly or rail back to Zurich the evening before. Vienna is a great city & ZRH is possibly the easiest international airport there is. So clean and calm. As for the luggage in my experience the Star Gold luggage benefit does stay intact even if the ticket doesn't come with a luggage benefit itself.
