Yes I have done Cancun once and Guadalajara twice from LAX. Usually look for availability on the Alaska Air website and then call Virgin. Have never had issues booking the awards. These are my second favorite miles because of Delta. Another option for me is Virgin America at only 20k miles RT.Have never really tried redeeming on Virgin America, but I have read some success stories on the Virgin Atlantic forum.
