Not 10 or so years ago, they weren't, at least in Y, which was all I flew in back then. The seat pitch was a bit better on TATLs, and there wasn't the big AVOD box under every other seat. The SH meal, IMHO, was still inedible, and I pretty much always packed my own meal for these trips. This was in the day of the Deli Bag, which contained a big nasty sandwich swimming in mayonnaise.
After some extremely unfriendly Longhaul crews, and getting sick of dealing with LHR in those days, I went over to SK for a few years until they gave up SEA-CPH.
