I have no problem with a 40 minute connection in SEA. I do it all the time.

If you fly the first leg on QX, I highly recommend checking your bag. The a-la carte wait at SEA can be 1-2 minutes on an empty flight or 5-10 minutes. Or get a bag that'll fit in the Q400 overheads.
