I've had the HHonors Reserve card since late 2014. I hit the $10,000 spend last year to get the free room but have switched most of my hotel stays to SPG properties. I called retention to inquire about closing the card or switching to another co-branded card (specifically the AA Platinum). Yesterday, I was offered and accepted a 750 point bonus each month I spend $750 on the card for the next 16 billing cycles. In total, if I hit the spend each month, the offer is worth an extra 12,000 HHonors points. That is enough for a free night at a lower tier property and enough incentive to keep the card until this year's free night certificate hits for $10,000 in spending.
