The predators are circling around the Mouse.
Hit by the travel downturn, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., has cut live stage shows on some days, trimmed hours for some attractions at its Epcot Center and cut employees' hours. The park is offering some bargains, such as a nightly rate of $59 at Disney's popular All-Star Resorts.
But other Florida theme parks are moving in with big offers, too. A package deal at Sea World features two nights at a local hotel, plus free admission to Busch Gardens in nearby Tampa, for $47.95 per night. Universal Orlando is offering two-day passes to both of its theme parks, plus two nights at a local hotel for $169 per person. Universal's high-end Portofino Bay Hotel is offering a rate of $315 per adult for a two-night stay, admission to the parks and dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe -- an 18% savings off the previous offer.
Such discounts are becoming common in Florida, says a spokesman for the state's tourism office. Florida's tourism industry is down about 20% from this time last year, he estimates.
