I think it's a silly idea since the stated reason is to make the iPhone thinner, but it's already perfectly thin enough.
I don't really care about phones being any thinner unless it's so thin that I can fold/unfold (or roll/unroll) it, but we are nowhere close to that level of thinness happening, and I'm not even sure I'd want a device like that given input issues of concern to me.
What I do care about is a much more destruction/damage-resistant device, some kind of much superior battery performance, more "measurement" capabilities, and a device that re-charges without me having to even do much thinking about when next to connect the device for re-charging. But unless there is a huge leap in these areas with iPhones, I'm rather content with my current iPhone choices (in conjunction with rather decent protective cases that don't add too much bulk to the devices) and don't see myself necessarily being so eager to upgrade anytime soon.
