In many hotels I find that my LTE phone service provides a faster connection than the hotels Wi-Fi. I end up creating a Wi-Fi hotspot with my phone and connect two laptops, mine & my SO's, & two iPads and don't notice any significant degradation in service even while watching Netflix.

My service provider is T-Mobile and if you don't have T-Mo you can get a one month connection without any contracts for around $50. There is a monthly limit on the data after which the speeds are dropped but still usable.
