Alternatives to hotel wifi

I have to attend a conference at the Westin Kierland in Scottsdale, AZ and have booked a package with the conference organizer. The hotel wants to charge me $30 + tax for a Wi-Fi login (per device, per day) and I need to run my laptop for several hours each day.

Tethering off a cell phone won't quite do since I need a reasonably fast connection for running several programs simultaneously.

Does anyone have some suggestions if I do not wish to give in to this atrocious price charged by the hotel (on top of atrocious prices for room, board and drinks of course)?
