I know I've seen the Smurfs wandering around the landside terminal area but haven't seen them force somebody out of the train before if they stayed on when the doors opened but I can certainly see them doing that.
On a bright note, OP made it easily, and with Pre-Check the lines are usually pretty reasonable. Now, going through the A side, well, thats a whole nother story.

No need to do that as a connecting passenger. If you veer to the left after customs (instead of right which brings you to the tram) there is a small TSA screening area...a metal detector and a x-ray belt (no nude-o-scope!). Earlier this year I was sitting on an earlier connecting flight within 10 minutes of getting off my flight from BSB.
Didn't know there was a left turn down there - never really paid much attention.
