How would it work where the 'ex-EU' segment starts with a S/H flight back to LHR?

For example, say I have AMS-LHR-SFO booked as my ex EU

And say the BA (125 stock) positioning flight out to AMS two hours before that is delayed, and I miss that first segment back.

The segment that I have missed therefore is a S/H one, connecting to a L/H one.

Am I protected in the event of missing that ex-EU?
