Problem is my onward flight to DAD departs 07:55 (and that's the only daily flight). Should I rebook myself on tonight's LAX-HKG flight? If so, should I contact AA or CX to change this award?

All this assumes that CX873 has landed, which looks like it. I recall something about min crew rest time. - If that's the case, I hope that's why my flight is delayed:

Yes, you should rebook given there is only 1 daily flight to DAD. I would never leave just 1 hr 45 mins for a connection at the end of a long haul flight. And trans-Pacific heading west is particularly bad as you are heading west against the jetstream.
