Much of the rules are about the right "box" existing to be ticked, and I suspect that this one would not and therefore that there is certainly no guarantee that they would. Nevertheless, if you are fined because of such an IRROP, I would certainly encourage you to write to BA and briefly explain the case, join a photocopy of the fine and request them to take it into account and hope that an efficient agent will find a way to apply common sense.
