The other lawyer already got paid by sending the letter. It's likely an insurance defense lawyer that is racking up billable hours, not looking for a big pay day from OP.
You have no clue - nor do I - what language is contained within the letter beyond what OP has listed. We know very few facts. There are many more considerations at stake than, as you suggested, denying the cause of the problem via certified letter.
