I'll leave the question of 261 compensation to others, but in a minor way you might like to know that you fared better than some. I was checking into a hotel in BDA that day and the couple ahead in the queue were on the phone reluctantly accepting being rebooked into Y despite travelling on a W ticket.
As it happens, I was also forcibly downgraded in the re-booking from W to Y so that was another aspect to the compensation I was seeking. In the event of not being awarded anything i guess i will get some refund for the downgrade, but ultimately that will be trivial as compared to the 600 Euro plus 75% of ticket price, so ultimately i was really focusing on the 261 aspect
