Money Saving Expert article - "100,000s may need new passport to visit US after rule change"
A post not about visiting the UK, but rather about UK citizens and others who wish to visit the USA under their
Visa Waiver Program (VWP) - as of 1 April of this year, the US requires an
e-Passport (aka biometric passport, aka chipped passport) to use the VWP to enter the country.
The MoneySavingExpert (MSE) website has done a bit of digging in terms of how many non-biometric UK passports might still be in circulation - the Passport Office has apparently been unable to give a figure, but after looking at FOI data MSE says "the figures suggest it runs into the hundreds of thousands".
Not new news, and by no means an issue confined to UK passport holders, but from reading various reports it seems that this has taken some travellers, tour operators, travel agencies and others by surprise (or at least some of the latter have been a bit slack about informing their customers of the issue).
Forewarned is forearmed, etc etc
(...but I haven't got four arms I hear you say...)
