If you had started your journey earlier, on the return sector and you were within a day of travel, then yes probably BA could help. But if you were about to start the journey and (e.g.) the TA hadn't properly ticketed your booking, then you would have to contact the TA. In your SIN case there could be circumstances where you would need to call your TA, for example if urgently needed to change your booking due to an unexpected work commitment. Also BA may be reluctant to re-route you on alternative airlines if they don't own the ticket.
