I have been given a 'free ticket' once with another airline because I had missed my flight outside of my control. BA was willing to rebook me (next day) but as it was all time sensitive the TA (CWT) gave me a LH routing instead. Some TAs get a bunch of 'credits' from airlines for exactly this scenario. It was a life saver. Now that I no longer book corporate I doubt it will happen....
