I'm skeptical but that's just based on gut feeling. It's always been possible to buy a higher fare class voluntarily and thereby get higher upgrade priority but I wonder if anyone ever does it. This is slightly different because along with the higher priority you get extra leg room blah blah blah.

I guess it's sort of like a game of chicken to see who blinks first, will Medallions cave and buy W or will Delta walk all of this back.

One reason I doubt it will have a lot of influence is because Medallion level is still the primary ranking. If W was treated like Y used to be for upgrade purposes (i.e. if it was DM W, PM W, GM W, FO W, then DM YBMetc. followed by PM YBMetc. and so on) then maybe FOs would be enticed for example.
