Do you mean the automated bag drops? You still need to goto the kiosk first to check-in and get bag tags. You then walk up to the bag drop scan your boarding pass, and the machine will take an photo of your (Like SmartGate) to confirm your identity. All it goes is remove the need for an staff member to check your ID before you drop the bag. Basically its the same as Melbourne, just without someone physically checking your passport before you can't drop your bags.
What they really need to work on is getting Electronic boarding passes approved for departures ex-Australia.

True I do try and use the phone where I can (and remember). Less bulky than the BP. Would be good if they could use digital cards for status changes. Be hopefully faster to receive and less bulky on the wallet. Hotels do. Mind you I guess these suggestions aren't really specific to status but just general requests. Oh well worth a shot.
Swapping out those upgrade hotel and car vouchers for parking is more specific though.
