I had mentioned before about some big news in a post a couple of weeks ago, and this was it.
From some of the things I've heard, and the initial speculation of this deal, this could mean a considerable change for Air Canada, and the approach they will take towards the international market.
With Victor Li's considerable clout in Hong Kong, expect to see some major developments.
I've heard speculation that AC could use HKG as a major hub for Asia. The main reasons for this are:
-No *A carrier has a home carrier in HKG (I learned the limitations of this fact the hard way on my current *A RTW Fare)
-The Hong Kong goverment is open to the idea of AC using HKG as a hub for Asia
In my ideal world, I would love to see more direct flights from YVR/YYZ to HKG, with easy paths into the rest of asia from HKG.
One example was not being able to find a direct flight to HKG was from Melbourne into Hong Kong.
*A is well positioned already in Asia with home carriers in Singapore(SQ), Thailand(TG), Japan(NH), Korea(OZ), New Zealand(NZ). I guess the only things that are really missing are China (but Asiana is very aggressive into that market), Australia and Taiwan.
What do the rest of you think? If this is indeed true, I'm actually looking forward to this (seeing as the majority of my traffic is out of YYZ into the continental USA and Asia).
