Point is, you can’t say ‘it’s not what you’re thinking’, as that just complicates matters. There was a chance that he was not thinking what I thought he was thinking, plus if he was actually thinking what I thought he was thinking (which he probably was), then denying it almost amounts to an admission. So, I kept schtum.
In general most people around us are not paying us as much attention as we would like

He was probably just wondering when his goody bag would be delivered
