I have had excellent luck shipping Art objects back to the US from HK. The objects were fairly large and delicate but not overly heavy so they were shipped by air. The shop worked with another company that picked up the objects, created custom crates for them and shipped them. I was also able to secure insurance for them, but luckily didn't have to make a claim.

My only caveat to this is that you should not even agree to purchase the items or give a credit card # until you know the complete costs of crating/shipping/insurance for the items.

FYI- Also be aware that some items, especially if sent by ship will require the services of a Custom's broker on this end (US) This can also be fairly expensive. I sent about $3000 worth of statuary from Bali a few years back and the broker's fees and delivery from the port(OAK) to my home(SFO) ran about $1000. (the statues were still much cheaper- about 1/2 of what I would have paid here, if I could even find them).
