This reminds me to actually write a quick review. I've stayed here twice now, and I love the property, so much so that it's now my go-to for the city.
Rooms are nicely appointed, in a sort of contemporary Scandanavian minimalist style that I find to be very, very nice. Rooms have tablet devices that allow guests to order toiletries, room service, etc. I did find the minibar setup odd, though. There is a fridge, but you "curate" your own minibar--it's basically room service itself? Kind of weird.
Anyway, the tablets have Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Go on them, though guests need to login using their own credentials, which seems somewhat pointless to me. If I have a login to one of these, I'm also carrying a device that lets me log in. Only if the tablet streams directly to the television would this be a good setup, which it doesn't. The GM (more on him later) told me they're working to add this in the near future. I didn't receive an upgrade on either stay.
The hotel is also home to a new bar called The Blond, which I haven't had a chance to visit yet but is supposed to be quite hip. The restaurant is nowhere near completion, I'm afraid. As such, the room service options are limited, as there is minimal kitchen space.
The gym was also not yet completed the last time I stayed (~2-3 weeks ago). It will be located on the third floor and use what would otherwise be one or two guest rooms. I did sneak down to its location, and unless you're REALLY good friends with whoever else is using it, it's going to be an awkward experience with more than one person.
Check-in is on the first floor and is performed by the bell staff using a setup that's very similar to Andaz properties: an island with some tablets on it. The actual "lobby" is on the second floor and is staffed by the guest service staff. It's also got a very nice common area called the Library to do some work, and there is service of the same menu as room service. The burger is very good!
In the morning, the Library also offers a complimentary selection of meats, cheeses, pastries, and coffee. Nothing huge, but rather nice. The GM told me he's looking to start a happy hour for SPG Platinum guests in the near future, so that will be nice as well, especially since they aren't under any obligation to do so as a Design property.
The property itself sits DIRECTLY on top of the 6 and NQR trains. From the 2nd floor, you hear and feel every train going past, which is pretty wild if you're not used to it. Luckily, I didn't hear or feel a peep from either of my rooms during my stays.
The GM was kind enough to introduce himself to guests in the Library during both my stays and is FANTASTIC. He comes from other SPG properties, and he and his staff are on point. I didn't experience what I would consider a single service lapse. Which is frankly amazing considering my first stay was 3 days after the property opened.
My only complaints as such about the property are that for the amount of money that was clearly pumped into the property, the window finishes are crap. They bleed heat like you wouldn't believe, and there may as well be no window at all for the amount of street noise that came through. The GM told me they're receiving quotes to improve this aspect. Secondly and totally prima donnaish on my part, but the feather pillows go really flat when your head hits them. I'd recommend asking for foam.
I love this place. It's a great add to the portfolio. Happy to answer specific questions.
