I would not say that their breakfast is "very important" to me, but I would say that I am less inclined to stay at a Choice property because of the breakfast. At anything resembling comparable points/cash valuation, I would book away from a Choice hotel because of the poor breakfast, if it meant I'd get a materially better breakfast elsewhere.
I also think they DO care about their breakfast selection. I kind of think they don't realize how bad it is (the CEO seems to think having make-your-own waffles is innovative), and I also think they believe their customers aren't picky enough to need higher-quality selections. On the second point, it's possible they're correct. The fancy pants travelers seem to stay elsewhere.
