Even as a young person I would still choose the Westin and get the suite and club access.
Yes the Old Clare is in atm, but without elite benefits you'll get a small room and I'm not sure what you would do on that side of the city. It's close to the two universities and a new monstrous residential complex called Central Park but other than that there's not much there.
A bit OT; might be a monstrous complex to yourself but, as you might know, it was voted as one of the best buildings internationally in 2014/15 and won several other awards along the way too.
Eg.

But there's quite a bit to do, should get out in this part of the CBD more often
I do get it how many people think there's not much around here, I live at Central Park and work very close to The Westin so I get to enjoy both worlds day and night. Just because the southern ends of the CBD don't have a "CBD" feel, doesn't make it less fun or enjoyable.

I think that settles it for me, the Westin, especially in a suite would be crazy for me to pass on.
As I said in the The Old Clare thread, if its your first time I'd be more inclined to suggest to stay at The Westin - you're pretty much within a 15minute radius of the common things you (need to) do in Sydney.
Anyhow, fwiw, if I am on vacation I am not a fan on club lounges anyway as the food/drinks you consume there often means I skip food/drinks outside which is part of the vacation experience and seeing/enjoying more "local" things. When it's part of work travel and I am paid per day inclusive, then its fantastic to eat/drink and not need to spend my allowance.
