That said, I would not have taken the comment as a personal insult and would not bother complaining to UA about it.
I don't disagree, in fact I agree with you 100%. But when I read through this thread today, memories of Golden Rules and parables about people who live in glass houses instantly entered my mind.
Employees should be held to a professional standard, the comment was inappropriate. But they are also people, and it seems like the similar standard for a being a decent human isn't very strong with some of the name-calling that comes from UA's customers. Hard to get too angry at someone for using a term that was likely coined here on FT or a similar website as a derogatory description for fellow passengers.
