The CDC option is generally considered poor use of points, but I suppose lot depends on your own situation.

If you only have a few points left after your redemption, and are unlikely to earn any more in the future, then it is a possible way of stopping them becoming orphans.

It will also depend on how far you wish to travel - if you are just under the 75 mile limit then it will be better value that if you are going to LHR from a Bath Road hotel.
