Still you are missing the point. As a Gold member with these preferences on file, why does it have to be discussed at all?
It doesn't "have" to be discussed. Hertz wants it to be discussed, because it's an upsell opportunity. It's (from my perspective) an almost undetectably small nuisance. If it's a problem from your perspective, you can always change car providers.
