Use gcmap.com to calculate distance and then lookup on chart.
- JAL allows up to 7 stopovers and one open jaw
- For distance-based award charts, optimize by getting at the top end of one of the distance tiers. i.e., JFK-DXB-BKK round trip is just under 20,000 flown miles, so it's 155k for an F award, while going over 20,000 flown miles would be 200k.
- With JAL you have to include the surface sector in the distance calculation if you do an open jaw. For example, JFK-DXB-SIN//DEL-DXB-JFK is 18,689 flown miles, but you have to include the surface sector (the piece you're not flying as part of the itinerary) of SIN-DEL, so the total distance is 21,268 miles, so the price is 200k miles in F.
