Michelin is pretty reliable in Italy, in my experience. I don't necessarily even go for the starred places - if it makes the guide in some form (even just a mention) it's been good. I've gone back and compared the most recent against a few cities where I know enough to get around and eat well, and there was plenty of overlap between my favorites and the guide. So worst case, I like the same places they do.
