So far, the Guide Michelin France hasn't failed me yet. The Italian edition, I had a few years ago, was pretty good as well.

If you're looking at top-notch places with local cuisine to eat, the Michelin Guide will do the trick. Personally, I prefer the Bib gourmand and Assiette Michelin selections that usually feature very good, but more down to earth restaurants, than the Michelin starred restaurants.
