Qantas nearly had my BAEC tier points - warning!

I recently flew PER - SIN on QF71.

I have a QF FF number but when I made the booking I used my BAEC number and at no time during the booking process or manage my booking on the QF website did I log in to my QF account.

In MMB on the QF website my BAEC FF number was clearly shown on the booking as was Ms G50's.

So all fine and dandy I thought!

I checked in online but did not get a BP because we were in the exit row. At PER we went to the service desk to get our BPs and drop our bags off. I did not look at my BP in detail. When we got to the lounge, the dragon said "as a QF bronze you cannot enter".

I looked at my BP and to my amazement, my BAEC number was not there and instead my QF one was..... I showed my BAEC card and the dragon sprinkled some magic and helpfully reset my reservation so that my tier points would be correctly assigned to my BAEC account. The TPs have now appeared in my account

I am curious as to how my QF account got assigned to my booking and can only assume that when I went to the QF desk to get my BP the QF computer matched my name to my QF account (but not Ms G50). OR.... the agent saw a name match and deliberately reassigned the flight to my QF account.

Either way, it was a lesson learnt.....

Always check your BP for the account that the flight will be assigned to. As I understand it, you can get QF to drop a booking to let BA take it up retrospectively. But with some airlines this can be almost impossible.

So beware and check your BP
