The Handlery location is excellent - but there is a major downstairs renovation going on (I have walked by it several times and noticed this.) You may want to find out when it is scheduled to be finished (and then add a few weeks......)

For that time of year, I'd recommend reserving some sort of cancellable rate now and then in the days before the trip, check on more upscale hotels - if rooms aren't-a-movin, you may get $129 to $159 or so at top quality (but not luxury) hotels (St. Francis, Palace, SF Hilton).
