2 hours is ridiculous; that's for a 95-year old unaccompanied grandmother. I think that the 2-hour recommendation is there just so the 95-year old unaccompanied grandmother doesn't blame AA if she gets to the airport 1 hour beforehand and misses her flight.

Airports are busy on Saturday mornings, but it's leisure travelers then so the airport is the same as empty for an elite flyer with priority status for security and boarding. I find the busiest to be Monday mornings, particularly because other travelers are business travelers and no matter how high your elite level, you'll be in a crowd of others. If you're a frequent flier (with some type of priority status for security lines and boarding), Saturdays are a cinch.
