Thanks for the response (and sharing you're experience). I'm not too worried about sitting together as I think I'll be booking far enough in advance that there will be seats together in J. As for the price, again I'm not too concerned as long as by purchasing one ticket the fare doesn't increase for the second ticket by an amount that ends up making the cost of the two tickets more than they would otherwise have been. I'd just like to get the benefit of booking one seat at the lower price if it's available.

FYI, I'm not actually looking at AC flights - I'm looking at TK - they have the cheapest J fares for my itinerary and I've read some pretty good things about their J class. The one concern is that my itinerary includes transiting through IST on the way to and from ATH and given the current situation in Turkey and the recent terrorist attacks in IST it does give one pause for thought.
