Because GSers in the lobby couldn't enter the security line and because the GS lobby was full, yes, people had to wait out in the hallway that morning. Lots of "DYKWIA" passengers shouting out there.
I've only seen this once - and the only thing worse than a GS DYKWIA is a bunch of them all in one place....
