We are planning our family trip to HKG for Chinese NY. We were hunting for good hotel deals and found this site planetholiday.com. We made reservations for multiple rooms and for about 10 days. We were asked to provide credit card info plus credit card photocopies faxed to them in order to hold the rooms. Is that normal? Does anyone know anything about this site or have other suggestions? Thanks for helping this newbie! </font>
Don't ever send photocopies of credit cards. This is definitely not necessary. Avoid travel agencies, even on the internet for bargains. The best way to get the cheapest rates is to contact the hotels directly per Email. Type Hong Kong hotels on any search machine and you'll get the list of almost all the hotels in HKG. They will post rates on their homepage but you can bargain in contacting them. I made savings of at least $US 100.- a night.Of course, if you want your reservation confirmed, you will need to give them details of CC's but NO PHOTOCOPIES. If you are worried and already have done what they required, call your CC company and ask how much the hotel blocked. Don't worry about telling them of your concern. Amex is very helpful.
